| SUPPORT YOUR SCHOOLS |
In these difficult economic times local schools and teachers need our supposrt even more than ever. All over the country teachers are being laid off and programs are being cut.
I know we can't "fix" these huge problems - but there are small ways we can contribute. Here are some ideas:
|
| VOLUNTEER |
There are many ways to contribute your time. Check with your schools to see what you can do to help. Driving for a field trip, helping with a school carnival, shelving books in the library, tutoring a child who is having difficulty. You'd be surprised how much there is you could do.
|
| DONATE |
Many schools keep a clothes closet for kids who need jackets, shoes, all types of clothing. If your school doesn't do this - maybe you can help set one up.
|
As couponers there are a lot of items that we get for free or almost free that can be put to good use at your school. What about those glucose monitors that we constantly get for free? Check with your school nurse to see if she needs them. I bet she can also use first aid items, feminine products, disinfectant sprays/wipes, etc.
|
Did you get carried away with all the cheap school supplies in the back-to-school sales? Many teachers buy these items out of their own pockets for children who can't afford them. That stuff is just taking up room in your closet - donate it!
|
|
It's easy to toss that box or bag with the BoxTopsforEducation logo thinking it's not really worth anything.
But according to their website American schools have earned over $250 Million Dollars since 2001 from this program.
They have a place on the site where you can check to see how much your school has earned. I put in the name of my grandsons' school and it showed they had earned $10,926 so far this year. That's a lot of money for much needed equipment.
So SAVE those box tops. If you don't have kids in school - save them anyway. Your neighborhood schools can use them.
|
 |
There areother companies who also support our schools when we buy their products. Almost everyone is familiar with BoxTops For Education - but did your know Tyson Foods has a similar program? It's called Project A+ and Tyson will donate $0.24 for each label. Check it out here:

Removing Halloween Candy Stains (Thanks to the good folks at Tide® for these great tips.)
Chocolate and caramel candy
Soak the garment in cold water and treat with a prewash stain remover. Then launder in warm water. Rinse and check the garment to make sure the stain is fully removed. If the stain remains, re-soak in cold water for about 30 minutes and repeat laundering.
If the stain is fresh and the gum is still stuck and hard, apply some ice to harden the gum residue. Next, remove gum by cracking or scraping with a dull knife. Rub the stain with a heavy duty liquid detergent. Rinse in hot water. Repeat if necessary, then launder and inspect the stain. You might have to repeat the process if the gum is not fully removed after the first run.
Fruit-based stains (pumpkin, apple cider, fruit punch)
These stains should be treated immediately. Remove any fruit and run cold water over the stain. Rub the stain with laundry detergent and rinse. Launder the item as soon as possible using the warmest water that is safe for the fabric.
Often these stains smear onto clothing or garments as your kids are running around collecting candy or at a costume party. Treating them is no horror story though. If makeup is oil or wax based, remove excess with the back of a spoon. Treat the garment with 2X Ultra Tide® with Dawn StainScrubbers™. Then rub with heavy duty liquid detergent and scrub in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.
